I’M RIGHT 99% OF THE TIME

That’s how we feel especially in a heated conversation.

It’s fair, right? Since we would only say things that we know to be true and we have thought through carefully what this is before we said it out loud. And who is to say my opinion, perspective, and experience is lesser than yours or others….is probably the train of thoughts we unconsciously have when we think ‘I am right 99% of the time.’ But the math doesn’t add up. If we all think we are right, then where does that leave for a room of error?

Who is wrong? In a way, this is right and wrong. We do feel right about our opinions but our perception is not the full reality. While you have the right to feel and experience what you see, that does not mean coloring everyone else’s.

This is important when you think about how you communicate values such as creativity. Just because your approach to creativity worked for you does not mean it is the right one for that other colleague.

If you really want to lead your team to be creative, how are you giving space for everyone to explore what is right for them and not just for you? Something to reflect upon and take action.
