This is InnovatorsBox’s “IB Backstage“ series, where in celebration of InnovatorsBox’s 6th year anniversary that’s coming up in November 2021, we are highlighting the stories of our incredible team members.
Rowanne Chang is an imaginative creative with a knack for translating the intangible into something tangible. After years in law, marketing and music production, she realized how much visualization can be a powerful way to tell the story of the beat. From Taiwan and now living in Spain, Rowanne is a creative who has wild imaginations and communicates vividly through her artwork. Thanks to Serin’s introduction, we got to connect, and she has helped create our visual identities for InnovatorsBox Studios. Meet Rowanne and where she finds her creative inspiration!
In my Q&A with Rowanne, we explore several topics from why she pivoted to what she does now, why creativity is important to her, where she finds her ideas and inspiration from, some tips and hacks, and more. I can’t wait for you to get to know Rowanne who brings colors to our music and makes them more alive with her sensational visual imaginations.
Rowanne: Quirky, introverted, fun
Rowanne: I have so much fun creating Spotify canvas and all the cover artworks! Monica lets my thoughts go wild and I really appreciate it.
Rowanne: Everywhere actually, I know it sounds cliche but if you pay attention you can find the colors, layers and shadows anywhere. And I love them.

Rowanne: Because I was not a good lawyer. 🙂 Jokes aside, but I find music is something that although you may not be able to see or touch, it’s something you can “feel” so deep — and THAT is what made me fall in love with music.
Rowanne: Always be humble! For example, sometimes I post something I feel so confident about on social media, only to then realize that my followers may not be as wild about it as I am. But that’s okay! Instead of thinking that “oh they just don’t understand”, it’s important to understand that a designer’s job is to continue getting better at conveying the message behind the visual and strive to help the audience understand.
Rowanne: Go online to find out what the designers are doing now, and go to a lot of museums to find out what the painters were doing in the past. Building your own sense of beauty is a very important step, then it will become easier to find out what your style is gradually.
Rowanne: The musicians that usually inspire me are third culture songwriters. Right now, I have been hooked on Rina Swayama, BIBI, Nathy Pelso and Little Simz– loving these powerful women.
Rowanne: Gen Z. They really bring a lot of energy to the industry. For the music artwork, sometimes they just throw in some emojis, and that’s it – the artwork is ready! The Gen Z vibe and attitude will definitely change the music industry quite a bit.

Rowanne: Oh that’s too many. Tal Baltuch, Vania Heymann, Gal Muggia, Kimberly Stuckwisch and Toby L etc. THERE ARE SO MANY GENIUS!
Rowanne: Little Prince, like always. I also love Gabriel García Márquez and Raymond Carver.
Rowanne: Faith by Pop Smoke! It doesn’t really sound like what I would usually listen to but surprisingly love it.
Rowanne: Olivia Rodrigo – SOUR Prom on YouTube, I really like how they came out with this prom idea and it fits her brand so well.
Rowanne: I sleep, go to the gym or read a lot of manga. They all just make my brain stop thinking and sometimes you just really need that. Also I’m an introvert so sometimes not talking to people for days helps too haha.
Rowanne: PLEASE, PLEASE visit Taiwan. We have the best fruits and foods. If you are a city girl, we have every night life imaginable. If you love nature, go to the east, the view will take your breath away!!! If you love beach season, come to Valencia, have a glass (or a jar) of Sangria then just chill like a European.
Rowanne: Ahh… I really want to go to Iceland. Don’t you think that place is so mysterious and fascinating? My fantasy started with the Bon Iver – Holocene music video. I just want to walk around, see the views, see the people, and feel the air.
Thank you, Rowanne, for being the beautiful soul that you are. You’re an amazingly talented musician and your music is a gift.
I look forward to continuing to work together to bring more of your incredible compositions for the world to enjoy.
